Betty Lou Holt
Moving to California during her pre-teens, Betty never lost interest in her Oklahoma roots. The only child of Herb and Mary Holt, she made many trips back to visit grandparents and other relatives. She maintained a close relationship with her extended family in the Shawnee area.
She was active in Monrovia High School activities; was an outstanding student who made friends easily. She met the love of her life at Citrus College. Bill May was not only #1 in Betty's life, but his own world revolved around her, too. He was staunchly protective of and devoted to her.
As educators for California students, they experienced a world of triumphs and difficulties. Their lifelong interest in students created a desire to be generous in establishing scholarships for kids in California, as well as in Oklahoma, and Colorado (where Bill had gone to college).
It may have seemed like a daunting task to juggle motherhood, home, and classroom during the years Mike and Sandy were at home, particularly during the years Bill was working and going to school to earn his doctorate. However, with determination she managed to keep things going--while being a part of the kids school activities and other pursuits.
Betty's outgoing personality allowed her to communicate with everyone she met. On her travels with Bill around the world, Betty made time to converse with all types of persons of diverse locations and backgrounds. Her enthusiasm and interest in the world around her exemplified her "can-do" spirit.
She was a devoted daughter to Herb and Mary; always keeping in close touch with them even when she was miles away. Her visits back to Oklahoma were the highlights of their declining years.
