Joe Hughey Newell
Hughey (Joe, to some of his family) was a good provider and hard worker. He was a long time employee of the Seminole Post Office. It was not unusual for
him to pile the family into his car after work and drive out to "the farm" to work in the garden till darkness overtook them.
He was a health food advocate, long before that became a popular term. He was an avid reader and kept up with advice on many health issues. Being
knowledgeable about his world, he kept a goodly supply of supplemental vitamins for his family. More than one of his nieces or nephews were administered a dose
of some strange-tasting liquid with the promise that our current ailment would be cured. It usually worked! Whether it was the right cure, or we were afraid we'd get a second dose, is unknown.
He was proud of his family, and instilled values of hard work and generosity.
Hughey was a leader in the Church of Christ. He was not only a church-goer, but was faithful in giving to those who had less. He came forward with a cash
gift at the death of at least one family member, when money was in short supply for that family.
