Being raised in a city family of girls, Ruby loved the social life of her church and friends. She was a good cook and wonderful hostess. She especially loved family gatherings with good food and lots of visiting.

Though she could never quite understand why anyone would want to live out in the country--in Oklahoma, at that, she was always willing to come to Oklahoma in the summer. Due to her northern upbringing she must have felt that the rest of us lived in an arid desert.

Ruby was generous. More than once she helped make Christmas special for some of Carl's nieces and nephews. She was an avid shopper, and watched for trinkets that would please one of the Oklahoma kids whom she felt were impoverished.
